Quick Verdict: A decent and varied snapshot of what made Frank Sinatra so great

This may be the ultimate Frank Sinatra compilation. It has appeared in various forms over the years, but this is the most recent iteration of it all. For those of you who don’t know, Frank Sinatra was a legendary crooner and singer who created a huge backlog of songs during his lifetime. He had an instantly recognisable singing voice and a style and fashion that won hearts and minds internationally. This compilation release is a summary of his life’s works, which, in retrospect, is much needed, given the many albums that Frank Sinatra made during his lifetime. This is Frank Sinatra, done his way. Let’s jump in and hear this release, and hopefully it will be a good one.

1. Bad, Bad Leroy Brown is a classic Frank Sinatra tune. It begins with drum rolls, brassy instrumentation, and sounds that are great. Frank himself sings wonderfully and upbeat throughout, and he delivers a story sung about a guy from the wrong side of the tracks. Even so, this is a quirky and amusing listen that sounds really cool. Indeed, this piece sounds really marvellous throughout from start to finish. There is a key change in the second half, and Frank Sinatra delivers the coup de grace conclusion to this awesome song. Great to hear, and a decent start to this quintessential compilation.

2. Come Fly With Me begins with fluttering instrumentation and launches into a soaring tune about flying with Frank Sinatra himself. This is yet another iconic tune about fantasy-based adventures throughout. This is a must-hear for fans of crooner-based vocal Jazz Music, and this sure sounds fantastically giddy. All in all, Frank Sinatra deals the goods very nicely on this tune. The backing band also sound superb, upbeat and enjoyable throughout. Another solid tune by the king of the crooners. This explorational tune of joyous romanticism is absolutely fantastic. A great slice of music for three minutes in length. Sweet, the conclusion is awesome as well.

3. Fly Me To The Moon begins with some smooth percussion and a touch of piano, before launching into a swinging and breezy tune sung by Frank Sinatra that sounds really fantastically great. He sings passionately, euphorically and sweetly about being in love with a lady of one’s desire. This is a nicely structured and mellow tune that has some definitely great and excellent sounds about it all. A really top-notch tune that has colour and flair to it all. A very great listen from start to finish. Wonderful to listen to.

4. For Once In My Life begins with some drum rolls and some loud and fancy-sounding brass. Frank Sinatra sings well here, and he articulates a story about being happy and in love at the same time. A charming and delightful tune at hand, Frank himself depicts himself in his life as being in a stage of pseudo-Buddhist nirvana, just sounding on top of the world as well. He sings about finding Mrs Right, and being over the moon about it all. All in all, a really great and sensationally happy tune. Top stuff by Frank Sinatra.

5. I Get A Kick Out Of You begins with a proud and loud brass section, with Frank Sinatra singing about boozing and loving. This is a brilliant song about likewise comparisons, and Frank getting a kick out of a lady more than anything else. Joyous, upbeat and musically brilliant, Frank Sinatra delivers outstanding music from beginning to end, with a call-and-response instrumental section solo that is truly marvellous, followed by a saxophone solo at hand. A truly great listening experience is present. A joyous, upbeat and interesting song that deserves to be heard more often. A top-notch song, people with a sense of class will love this song. Awesome to listen to.

6. It Was A Very Good Year is a moody and sad piece from the beginning of it all. Frank Sinatra sings amongst a melancholy piece of music to begin with, and he sounds like he is reflecting on a bad scenario present. Frank does sing about the past, and how things were better then in their own way. This is not a happier or upbeat-sounding piece of music; it is lined with melodramatic tragedy about it all. The magic and music behind this song are extremely sweet and tender. There are rays of light amongst all the darkness, although this is tinged with the melodramatic and sad song. This song sounds really very much like an odd addition to this compilation, but nonetheless, a good one. It gradually wraps up with a reflection on years gone by. An awkward addition to this compilation, but a good one in any case.

7. I’ve Got You Under My Skin is a much more upbeat and Jazzy tune at hand. Frank Sinatra sings about a deep and romantic connection with a lady at hand. This is certainly an awesome tune to listen to. Frank sings smoothly about lusting for a lady who is perfect for him. This music is beyond good listening; it is fantastic. Frank sings in a gloriously lovable way, and the rest of the group follows him along nicely. There is a trumpet-led brass solo present that sounds super cool. A killer song by old blue eyes, this is music for the ages. A winning listen by Frank himself. Absolutely awesome to hear. The double bass at the end is interesting.

8. L.A. Is My Lady begins with some Disco styled percussion and launches into a weird mesh of Frank Sinatra and Disco Music. Nonetheless, this is a good take on changing fashions and sounds throughout. Frank sings about being in love with the city of Los Angeles at heart. This is a good tune, although it verges on self-parody throughout. Even so, this is an interesting and different tune that has some wacky style and flair throughout. This tune is, nonetheless, an odd yet marvellous listen. Towards the end is a dramatic chord and structural change to finish it all off. Sweet.

9. Love and Marriage is a very short, yet interesting piece with some Jazzy instrumentation. It is a lovely and addictive tune about the joys of being in love with a married partner. This music is very awesome to listen to. A really lively and awesome tune at hand, which makes one feel simple romantic. A great tune to hear.

10. Love’s Been Good To Me is a much more relaxed and simple tune, with some neat and pristine harpsichord and other instrumentation at hand. Frank Sinatra sings melodically and wonderfully on this tune. He articulates the life that love can give to the listener in a truly grateful way. An absolutely awesome and lively tune that has optimism, grandeur and a really great sound to it all. A really sweet and enjoyable tune that has character and flair about it all. This is a good listen that is semi-autobiographic in its nature. Hopefully, love has been good to the listener as well. A genuinely great song to listen to. Very gracious and divine listening.

11. Mack The Knife begins with some weird instrumentation and humming in the background. This launches into a good and Poppy number that sounds really enjoyably upbeat. A really cool and interesting tune at hand, which sounds absolutely magically awesome to listen to. A very articulate and Jazz-based song that has a story about a dude who is up to no good. This music has style, drama and flair to it all. This tune is a great representation of those in the pre-1960s who smoked cigars, wore tweed suits and gambled at night. With various references to music greats of the past, Frank Sinatra conveys a wonderful and lively musical statement that sounds really cool. An absolutely awesome tune at hand. A really symphonic piece of Jazz crooner Music that counts. This is a glorious listen, although a bit self-indulgent lyrically, it makes a great deal of sense throughout. Awesome tune.

12. Moon River begins with some tranquil acoustic guitar with Frank Sinatra singing gorgeously above it all. The guitar playing is insanely good here, matched with a sweet and pretty string section at hand. This is a piece of yearning romantic imagery throughout. This is a sensationally gorgeous tune at hand that has some sweet and lively music within it all. A horn solo is present in the midsection of this song, and this is Frank Sinatra hoping for some love in his life. Nonetheless, a powerfully awesome tune. This music has some direct and awesome emotional power to it. A really awesome and dramatic song that is quintessential listening by Frank Sinatra. Fantastic. The acoustic guitar at the end is sublime.

13. My Kind Of Town is a pretty number that begins moodily with a string section. Frank Sinatra then gets into crooner mode very nicely. He then sings a song about Chicago in the USA. A fantastic and lively song that has pretty dynamics and a gorgeous sound about it all. If Frank Sinatra has a song about this city, then for sure, it is worth visiting, at least on holiday. A really fantastic and upbeat yet dramatic song that is iconic and memorable throughout. A great song to listen to and worth multiple listens. Absolutely awesome stuff throughout. The outro is ridiculously cool.

14. My Way is the definitive Frank Sinatra song. This is a truly loveable and gracious song by Frank Sinatra that is definitive for him, the listener at hand and also the human world. This is a sweet and wonderful sounding tune which has been quoted by some politicians, amongst other famous icons and which sounds absolutely awesome at hand. However, this is Frank Sinatra’s song first and foremost. A really awesome and dramatic listen that has some joyous and awesome life lessons. Still, Frank did it his way, and nobody else could touch him in his own way musically. The instrumentation and performances throughout are ridiculously good, with a neat Big Band Band-style jazz sort of backing and musicianship. Nonetheless, if you need to hear one Frank Sinatra song, then this is it. A great, great song to listen to. Absolutely mindblowingly great. The ending is absolutely fantastic. Great tune.

15. Somethin’ Stupid features Nancy Sinatra. This begins as a sort of Spanish acoustic guitar piece that sounds really awesomely tremendous and fantastic. This is an iconic song that has some real meaning to it, if you have ever been on a failed date as such. A really great piece of music at hand, this tune sounds sweet, picturesque and dramatic. Love lost can sting, and this is an upbeat tune with a large undercurrent of sadness throughout it all. There is a brass and string section solo, followed by a gradual conclusion of the song. Awesome tune.

16. Strangers In The Night is an absolutely pretty and beautiful song from the start. It is a piece of strong and purely romantic songcraft that sounds pretty, image-evoking and bittersweet. It is a song about the age-old phenomenon of being in love with someone you have just met, and one who falls in love with another for life at first sight. It does happen, you know. In any case, this song is a fantastic listen with a key change towards the end. Brilliant music. The outro is simply bliss.

17. Summer Wind begins with an organ and brass section to match it. It sounds pretty, sweet and fantastic throughout. An absolutely divine and pretty song about being in tune with the seasons and in love with a lady of one’s fancy. Seriously nice music at hand, this is a really gorgeously upbeat song to listen to. This is the perfect song for people who live near the beach and who love to enjoy the summer as such. An absolutely awesome tune to hear, Frank Sinatra is in full wooing mode on this song. A great song, Frank is charming for the ladies in this song. Excellent work.

18. That’s Life is a very 1960s-sounding piece with prominent organ and percussion. This leads to an iconic and classic song by Frank Sinatra, which sounds life-affirming and wonderful to listen to. An absolutely gorgeously awesome song with style and flair throughout. With some awesome lyricism about making it in life, despite one’s pitfalls, this is a tune that must be heard. Lesson learned? Don’t give up in life. This is a fantastic and wonderful song with some top-notch singing by Frankie, doing his charming and awesome gig. There is a key change towards the end, and the climax at the end is genuinely fantastic. Awesome song.

19. The Best Is Yet To Come begins with some sweet and interesting piano playing, before launching into a very James Bond sort of sounding tune at hand. Frank Sinatra sings about the good times ahead with a lover at hand. He sounds absolutely gloriously good on this song, and sings about being with a lover for romantic deeds in the future. The brass section on this song is absolutely wonderful, and he sounds like he is in a fully dramatic mood for romance. Seriously awesome tune at hand is present here. Indeed, nobody could do crooner music as well as Frank Sinatra himself. Indeed, this is a sweet, sultry and romantic tune. Excellent.

20. The Girl From Ipanema begins with a Spanish guitar, which sounds great, before horns enter. This is a gloriously good tune, once again, that sounds sweet and lovely throughout. A song about romantic desire at hand, which Frank Sinatra points out the sad side of romance, just as well as he can point out the happy and upbeat side of it all. A really sweet and fantastic tune at hand, which sounds really cool. Some Spanish is spoken on this tune as well, but not by Frank himself. Nonetheless, this is a really great song with its own unique qualities. A seriously top-notch tune to hear, even if this is merely a cover song at hand. Great to listen to, although its music is mired with tragedy. Awesome to hear regardless.

21. The Lady Is A Tramp begins with some audience cheering and applause, and launches into a brassy band piece that sounds great. A really awesome version of the Frank Sinatra song that sounds spot on and nicely delivered throughout, and the music and lyrics complement each other perfectly. All in all, the music and singing will take you to a place that is rather old-fashioned, but not dated. An awesome tune that is smart, stylish and fantastic to hear throughout at hand. All in all, a seriously cool tune that is expressive, direct and awesome to hear, time and time again. The Jazzy instrumentation is killer throughout, and this music is seriously a winner’s delight. Awesome. The crowd goes nuts at the end.

22. Theme From New York, New York is a very famous Frank Sinatra song. It launches into classically brassy action by Frank Sinatra, and sounds really fine and fantastic throughout. The singing and music are very fancy throughout. This is about one of the most iconic and famous cities in the world today. “I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps…” says it all. Frankie delivers an iconic and fantastic song about the glorious delights of New York itself. It sounds very, very cool musically. A great song with a cool key change and a wonderfully euphoric vibe about it all. This eventually reaches a joyous and vibrant climax at the end, which is absolutely fantastic to hear. If you aren’t smiling while listening to this gem, then you hate crooner music. Fantastic from beginning to end.

23. They Can’t Take That Away From Me begins with a fade-in of instrumentation, and has Frank Sinatra singing and sounding smart about a lady that he has a fanciful desire for. Nonetheless, a seriously killer tune to hear. If you want to jump back in time to a happier and simpler time, then Frankie is your man to do so. A gloriously good listen with punchy and brassy melodies throughout, this just goes to show how great Frank Sinatra was in a musical sense. A seriously top and euphoric tune about a lover who never disappoints. Absolutely awesome from start to finish, with a sustained vocal finish that is awesome.

24. What Now My Love begins with some drumming and brass instrumentation in the right channel, before launching into a surprisingly upbeat song about dealing with the consequences of a relationship breakup. This music is lovely, pretty and sweet to listen to, despite the situation at hand. Frank Sinatra delivers a great musical statement to finish up this compilation. If anyone needs a good song to hear to feel somewhat better about a relationship gone sour, this is it. A very listenable and decent tune at hand, and very much like fine wine to drink on the occasion.

This is indeed a very good Frank Sinatra compilation. It shows a wonderful and varied career at hand which inspired and touched millions of lives worldwide with his generally upbeat, intelligent, tasteful and jazzy music. Although this compilation is imperfect, as some songs are more memorably better than others, there is no doubt that many music fans should hear this compilation. Should you listen to this compilation? Yes, if you like the idea of crooner-style Vocal Jazz, but no if you like louder types of music from the 21st century.
