Quick Verdict: One of the best live albums of the 21st century to be released so far
This is a postmodern guitarist who needs little to no introduction. Well known and regarded as a great musician and singer is the man known as Christone Ingram, but better known as Kingfish. After two phenomenal albums released in recent years, Kingfish himself had the guts to put together a live performance in London and to record it and release it as an album. He also has his own Fender Custom Shop Telecaster HH, which sounds amazing on its own. It is a fairly lengthy listen at nearly two hours in length overall, but since it has had overwhelmingly positive reviews, this needs to be covered here. Let’s take a listen to this 2023 live album and hopefully, it will be as good as promised.
1. She Calls Me Kingfish begins with some crowd cheering and some interesting keyboard playing. This sounds really quite different and awesome simultaneously. Eventually, drums lead into this awesome song. This sounds exciting and interesting already, and quickly launches into a neat piece of Blues guitar phrasing. This is an anthemic and fantastic listen from the start. Kingfish plays like a real guitar god with his awesome Fender Telecaster. Drums are also very prominent at this stage. The guitar soloing is original, powerful and different to listen to. Kingfish is a Blues legend already, and he is still very young. Nonetheless, this music is fantastic to listen to. A lively, powerful and driven piece with some neat African-American Blues-style singing throughout. All in all, this is fantastic music to listen to. One can simply imagine the crowd bopping along very nicely to this tune. A really great live performance with some expressive guitar soloing throughout. An absolutely awesome listen for those of you who have got the Blues. This sounds like years and years of effort from Kingfish, that is sweet, tasty and awesome music ear candy to listen to. In the second half is a smooth breakdown that the crowd approves of very well. An absolutely awesome live rendition of the classic song. The clean and smooth leads in this section are really magical to listen to. Very, very cool to listen to on repeat. Some awesome playing continues as the loud section returns. Kingfish is a definite music legend today. A really cool and dynamic tune with a fantastic delivery overall. A great, great song and an equally great start to this live album. The guitar at the end is fantastic. Kingfish then talks to the crowd.
2. Fresh Out begins with some searing guitar leads and awesome musicianship from the band. A seriously wonderful and awesome listen emerges with some fantastic Fender Telecaster HH leads being played out nicely. Singing about being poor, broke and hungry, Kingfish excites and plays note-perfect this fine Blues Music that has a real and genuine appeal to it all. He sings from a gritty, dirty Blues Music basis, and has the music to match it that is equally as good. All in all, this dramatic and powerful music has serious and genuine appeal. The guitar solo is again fantastic. Kingfish plays like a beast and sounds really great overall on this tune. Seriously awesome, this music will take you to a better place. An absolutely top-notch and fantastic listen throughout, which does not disappoint. Kingfish is a definite talent throughout. This music is interesting enough to be taken seriously and make you want to listen to Kingfish, note for note and word for word. His catchy and interesting guitar soloing is in a class of its own. Legendary is this music. The soloing continues on very nicely and changes volume and emphasis throughout. An organ solo follows, which sounds very excellently played overall. These guys should be really very proud of the music made on this tune. Absolutely awesome music to listen to, this is proof that Kingfish and friends could cut it nicely live as well. Kingfish speaks over the solo, just before he returns, singing about drinking one’s sorrows away to deal with emotional pain. A very fluid and amazing music performance. This music continues on very nicely and has some awesome guitar soloing in both clean and dirty. Overall, it sounds absolutely brilliant. The crowd loves this stuff, and you can clearly hear why. Some muted guitar work is right near the end of this listen, and Kingfish plays away beautifully. Soon enough, the volume kicks back in for the grand finale, and the band plays extremely well. An eight-minute-plus-long piece that you will never tire of. A fantastic listen.
3. Another Life Goes By begins with a smooth keyboard that sounds really sweet and cool. A really awesome piece of music that sounds extremely cool. Bass guitar enters that sounds really cool as well, alongside some interesting musicianship. Kingfish plays some neat wah-wah guitar licks that sound absolutely divine throughout. Kingfish eventually gets singing away, and sounds like a true legend throughout. This is about those who are taken away in the name of murder. Another fantastic song about gun violence and the fact that innocent lives are taken away for no good reason at all, particularly in the USA. Kingfish sounds like a music legend on a major mission to impress and succeed overall. This music is certainly top listening. A really smooth, sweet and awesome listen throughout with guitar and keyboard soloing that are nicely played on top of each other. Sensationally great to listen to. Kingfish sings just as well, articulating in a smooth voice about the problems that African-Americans face in the USA to this very day. Nonetheless, this is really sweet and fantastic music. The sounds and mixing are excellent, and this is a live album that you must hear. As we gradually approach the end of this tune, the guitar solo sounds really sweet and awesome to listen to overall. This album is seriously good in what it offers, and the listening experience is definitely wonderful, consistent and unique throughout. This eventually ends very well with a chaotic shred-like conclusion and much applause.
4. Empty Promises is nearly nine minutes long and sounds like a Jimi Hendrix-inspired tune from the start. It sounds melodic and somewhat regretful emotionally on the guitars before the rest of the band kicks in. The use of wah-wah guitar throughout is sensationally good to listen to. This music ought to be recognised as real music history. Eventually, this song launches into action, and Kingfish sings nicely about broken-hearted love. This song is extraordinarily good to listen to. This sounds fantastic, especially with the organ in the background. The music itself is gorgeous and sweet throughout. Kingfish sings absolutely brilliantly on this song, and the whole band back him up like an army’s generals, solid and with strength. All in all, this music is absolutely sublime to listen to. Towards the midsection is a fantastic guitar solo that sounds great. Kingfish can rock as well as do the Blues. He sounds absolutely on top form on this tune and delivers exactly what audiences need and want to hear. This music is sensationally good to listen to. Putting himself halfway between melodic guitar lines and fast shredding, Kingfish is on top of this tune. This sounds magical in its own way, and none can match Kingfish in loud Blues Rock Music today. All in all, this music is a winner. Absolutely a winner. Kingfish plays like there is no tomorrow, and he delivers what he can on this performance. The extended guitar solo section is fantastically magical to listen to. Wah-wah is applied to the guitars, and this quickly returns to the song section at hand. This has some neat and unique clean guitar work at hand. Kingfish sounds extraordinarily great on guitar here. Soon enough, singing resumes, and this gradually concludes with a climax with neat instrumentation to listen to. Kingfish is a champ on this tune, and it slowly and gradually wraps up with neat guitar work galore and a memorable listen that sounds heavenly. Top.
5. Hard Times is not Run DMC, just for those of you who thought it was. It begins as a funky, wah-wah-led piece that sounds different. This launches nicely into the song at hand and sounds really different. All in all, this piece of music is really great to hear. This music is in a league of its own, and it sounds swell and fantastic throughout. Kingfish rocks out very nicely, and he sings about the poverty and inflation that can wreck a person economically. A seriously cool tune to listen to, this has a dramatic and expressive guitar solo that demands to be heard. Kingfish knows very well how to make seriously good music. The guitar playing on this tune and live album is indeed fantastic to listen to. The organ is a nice touch as well. The soloing on this tune is absolutely fantastic to hear. This is a seriously good piece of songcraft. The soloing continues on for some time, sounding really great. This does sound a lot like Deep Purple, in its own way. Kingfish returns on vocals, and this tune is another legendary cut. In the second half, Blues guitar soloing on the neck pickup returns, and this tune continues to sound truly amazing. A really, very cool listen. This is very much a 1970s-sounding Blues Rock tune that does the listener great justice. The extended jam is a tasty and interesting listen throughout. The mixture of guitars and organ does sound really fantastic and legendary. This eventually ends after six and a half minutes of bliss.
6. Mississippi Night – Instrumental is a 10-minute-long instrumental. It begins with searing Blues guitar, organ galore and a sturdy rhythm section to back it all up. This sounds really fantastic to listen to. Kingfish rocks out nicely on this song, and he sounds fantastic with his unique and tasty guitar soloing throughout. Absolutely top-notch and awesome to listen to. Yes, this may be an instrumental on its own, but it sounds really fantastic. It goes subtle for a little bit, with some awesome and dynamic guitar playing by Kingfish. This sounds ridiculously good throughout. The Fender Telecaster HH gets a great spot on its own here, and the crowd love it as well. Sweet, tasty and sensationally good in a musical context, this guitar sound is absolutely fantastic. Soon enough, the band returns with power and glory throughout. This music is an absolute winner throughout. The band play with a ferocity and intent that is seriously fantastically unique. The shredding throughout is seriously good as well, on the guitar. This is great music to play to your friends if you wish to impress them with your music tastes. The midsection is glorious, and this sounds like a breath of fresh air in the world of music. This sounds electrifying and exciting beyond all description. This fine instrumental is exactly what one needs to hear today. In the second half, it returns to the section of subtlety with much cheering and applause present. This music is absolutely a winner of a listen, and it sure sounds good. The guitars and organ sound absolutely divine here. Kingfish is an absolute champ to listen to. This music is awesome, and more musicians and guitarists today really should hear this fantastic sound and style that Kingfish delivers on this album. He plays very expressively and fantastically, just sounding like he knows music, through and through. This builds up to an awesome climax towards the end, and has Kingfish making his guitar sing sweetly. Repeated note figures with blistering playing are present, followed by mindblowing solo sections. This eventually wraps up with some nice wah-wah soloing and a fantastic conclusion. Absolutely top.
7. Been Here Before is much shorter and begins with some neat acoustic guitar playing. This is continuing the quality live performance, and it sounds absolutely wonderful and fantastic. It is just Kingfish singing and playing acoustic guitar, but it is a winner. A really very cool listen throughout, Kingfish proves himself a great, great musician, and this album proves that he can cut it live, too. This is magical and uplifting music that never gets old. If the Blues today needs a young talent to grab some attention in the genre, Kingfish is just that. An absolute gem of a listen throughout. A great tune to listen to, this is an awesome song that comes nicely alive in its own way. Superb.
8. Something In The Dirt follows this with another acoustic and vocals tune that sounds absolutely sweet and fantastic to listen to. Kingfish sings and plays with some excellent musicianship that seriously kicks the proverbial. Kingfish sounds fantastic here, and he delivers a sensational and awesome performance throughout. This is less than three minutes long, but it sounds absolutely amazing to listen to. This song and singing are sensationally good to listen to. Kingfish illuminates the scenario of growing up and life back at home in rural USA. A top and awesome tune to listen to, this is seriously good to hear. Sweet and cool.
9. You’re Already Gone launches back into the band section of music, and it sounds very relaxing and awesome to listen to. This has a mixture of acoustic and band performance throughout, which is really lovely and sweet to hear. It sounds absolutely sweet and tranquil throughout, which is super cool to hear. This music definitely deserves to be heard. It sounds like the spirit of the likes of Eric Clapton on this song, with a cool organ solo to match it. Super cool music to hear. This sounds really refreshing, like a cool alcoholic drink on a hot summer’s day. Absolutely awesome music about losing one that one loves. The band stops for a bit mid-performance, with much cheering and shouting. After a long performance, Kingfish finishes up this classic song nicely. A very solid performance, with some neat acoustic guitar soloing at the end. Good to hear. It fades out at the end.
10. Listen is a six-minute-long piece. It begins with Kingfish getting the crowd to clap along after a spoken word introduction to this song. After some time, the band gets going very nicely with acoustic guitar and organ playing well, along with the rest of the band. This gradually launches into a sweet and lovely tune that sounds fantastic. Kingfish sounds like he is in love on this song, and he sounds like a champ on the acoustic guitar. This is proof that he could cover a wide variety of sounds and styles throughout. This tune sounds really awesome, once again. He sings and plays wonderfully on this song. A really awesome and good tune at hand is here. There are not enough listeners out there for this type of music as such. This changes here. This album is a sensationally good listen throughout, and it sounds fresh and pure. A seriously mint tune that deserves to be heard by more out there. The second half has a neat organ solo with acoustic guitar and other instrumentation playing along super well. This sounds extremely awesome, and has many sections to listen to. Kingfish sings and plays like a genuine music God. “I can’t wait until Sunday, to see your face again…” is sung on repeat here. Nonetheless, a very delightful and pure tune. Very lovely music.
11. Rock & Roll begins with a melodic piano, just in case you thought that this was a Led Zeppelin cover. It plays beautifully and sounds amazingly great. This continues on for some time, sounding very much like Classical Music throughout. Kingfish demands a round of applause for the keyboardist, who is doing a fantastic job here. It sounds really awesome to listen to. Soon enough, electric guitars and the rest of the band enter. This song launches into action, and Kingfish sings sweetly and in tune about himself selling his soul to Rock and Roll, the typical Bluesman thing. All in all, this is another fantastic and phenomenal live performance throughout. This music is really very sweet to listen to. Kingfish pours his heart and soul into this passionate performance throughout. A memorable and awesome tune, this is one of Kingfish’s best in a live setting. A really awesome listen, there are some fantastic musicianship and progressions. Kingfish sings and plays like the fantastic artist that he is. This music is an uplifting and fresh listen throughout. A very nice listen about giving up one’s own soul for the life of music. Some searing and powerful guitar soloing follows the main section of music at hand. This sounds superb, delicious and sweet throughout. Kingfish sounds like an absolute champ on this song in particular. A pleasant and lovely listen about being in love with women, life and Rock Music. A joyous listen. The ending is pleasant indeed.
12. Not Gonna Lie launches right into it with some funky wah-wah guitar and enters into a fantastic-sounding tune. This is sensationally good, and it sounds sweet and fine. A shorter and more concise tune about breaking out of a life of poverty, misery and crime and making it on your own terms, this sounds truly awesome. Dual tracked guitars are fantastic to hear on this song, and Kingfish sings triumphantly about music being a power, before launching into a fantastic wah-wah drenched guitar solo. This is an inspirational tune for those of you who think that music may not make you a better person. It actually does, contrary to that belief. This music is mindblowing and really fantastic to hear. Kingfish sings the Blues in a very nicely played and rocking tune to hear. Certainly an inspiring listen, you should pick up the guitar or a similar instrument and get going after hearing this song. The guitar solo in the outro is really solidly good. An awesome song to listen to, and deserving of your full attention. It ends with some interesting mash-up of instrumentation, before fading out.
13. Midnight Heat launches right into it with a snare drum hit, some very 1970s instrumentation and a song that really sounds great. This is very much a piece that looks back to the past in music history, whilst sounding great in the present and pushing on into the future. Kingfish sings really well here, and he sounds very impressive. This is, of course, a song about lovemaking, but nonetheless, it sounds very brilliant. A pleasantly powerful and interesting tune with more dual guitars being played throughout. Mind you, Kingfish may be the star of the show, but his bandmates are fantastic musicians as well. A really great listen throughout that sounds electric, eclectic and original. The guitar solo section, again, is really fantastic to listen to. Kingfish plays excellently and as if there is no tomorrow. A really great piece of music to listen to, with some references to the culture of the past, Kingfish sounds tremendously wonderful on this album. A really superb song to listen to, and the postmodern Blues song about getting it on that you need to hear. Really great music to listen to, every time. The guitar soloing at the end is fantastically monstrous. Another great song by Kingfish. Absolutely amazing music from start to finish.
14. Outside Of This Town leads right into it with some seriously awesome instrumentation, and Kingfish launching right into it with a woman tone (i.e. Eric Clapton in Cream) sounding guitar part, followed by fantastic guitar soloing. He truly sounds alive on this song. A sensationally good song that launches into the verses about travelling abroad and wanting to leave familiar scenery for something far better. A really powerful, great, and sensational music listen, Kingfish delivers a fantastic performance on this live album. A really joyous tune to listen to, this album is another must-hear listen by one of the best Blues musicians alive today. Kingfish launches into a seriously cool guitar solo that is full of flaming glory throughout. A real winner of a listen, this never gets old or boring throughout. The music from start to finish is something that you never want to miss listening to. This sounds really fiery and powerful to listen to. An absolute winner of a song that sounds really unique. Kingfish returns on vocals and sings well about his journey through life. A really powerfully top listen, there is another great guitar solo section in the second half of the song, which sounds seriously cool. One can hear the crowd cheering underneath it all. Soon enough, it goes back into the woman tone styled riff and the crowd goes nuts, even whilst the band is playing along nicely. A really great listen, this music has power and beauty throughout it all. Great to hear. A seriously awesome listen that will never die in its appeal. Kingfish has nailed 21st-century Blues. Towards the end, things get rather subtle with some clean guitar playing that sounds really very cool. A top-notch song to hear, with many twists and turns throughout. This eventually leads to a powerful and sizzling-sounding outro that is legendary. Kingfish is the man. Well done, brother. This ends with a chaotic set of soloing and the crowd going nuts.
15. 662 leads into the title song from his second album, and launches into some nice guitar soloing. Kingfish sings some great lyrics and follows into a very, very sensationally good song. This music sounds powerful, moving and alive, just like the Blues should. Kingfish delivers an electrifying statement that is a winner and full of fantastic glory. Playing his own original and artistic flair musically, he plays like a guitar hero that many need to listen to. The piano throughout is also a very nice touch to listen to. A powerful, energetic and lively listen that simply needs to be heard. It finishes fairly quickly with Kingfish thanking the crowd, with some interesting soloing to follow. This guy needs to be promoted more; he has genuine artistry and talent overall. This is a joyous and interesting listening experience that is wonderfully musical and enjoyable. The guitar soloing in the second half does not disappoint, and the crowd claps along with the tune. A very solid listen, this music is an absolutely wonderful trip through the best of music to this point. The soloing at the end is fantastic. Great and near perfect to hear. This music is certainly powerful and concludes the main section of this live album very well.
16. Long Distance Woman (Intro) – Bonus Track begins with some more moody piano playing that is descriptively beautiful and sounds absolutely fantastic to listen to. This is a solo piece of music that sounds really cool and different. Sure, there is no singing here, and the piano solo plays by itself, but it really does nicely on its own. A really interesting listen is present, followed by a spacey keyboard section that flows in and out of the mix. A really superb listen that doesn’t get at all boring. Solidly good, and a different addition to this album. Near the middle of this section, things musically get interesting and different. Piano and spacey keyboards intertwine very nicely indeed on this piece. A really interesting listen throughout. Soon enough, drumming enters to match this interesting music introduction. A great example of how good Kingfish’s band is, as well as the man himself. Some muted guitar enters, treated with some neat wah-wah guitar. A really cool listen, as this gradually leads into the final track on this live album.
17. Long Distance Woman – Bonus Track goes right into it with some loud and powerful-sounding guitar work. Kingfish plays some expressive lead guitar lines that sound dynamic, interesting and fantastic throughout. He launches into a piece of songcraft about wanting to ditch a long-distance relationship that has gone sour. A really great tune that is about the difficulties of maintaining such a relationship in the worst of all circumstances. Kingfish plays superbly on this tune, as he always does. This sounds really fantastic to listen to, and Kingfish plays like a madman in the best sense on his guitar. A really great listening experience that never gets old. No doubt that he is a pure young talent that many need to keep an eye on. In the second half is some loud and mindblowing guitar soloing on his own Fender Custom Shop Telecaster HH. This sounds really awesome to hear. This whole album is a treasure, and it delivers where it can. A really fantastic song of mammoth proportions. Soon enough, a muted and funky guitar part follows, which is extremely nicely played, with some wah-wah added for phenomenal effect. A truly great and inspired artist who is 100% worth hearing. This solo section continues along well with the band and sounds really nicely done. A very delicious tune to listen to. This follows into a loud and expressive lead guitar section with a single note repeating, before launching into chaotically overdriven playing that is awesome. This eventually finishes up a solid live album with loads of applause and cheering, with Kingfish thanking the crowd.
This is a must-hear. Whether or not you are a big fan of Blues Rock or not, this is a live album that many, many more listeners should hear and enjoy today. Kingfish is a fantastic young talent in the genre who proves that, yes indeed, he can make a live album just as good as his original studio album material. Therefore, this is a winner. Definitely give this album a listen right now; you will not regret doing so. This is as good as live Blues Music in the 21st century gets.
