Many people tend to laugh at K-Pop Music. The truth is, a lot of it is fairly laughable, eye-rolling or downright bad music to listen to. This girl group, ILLIT is yet another K-Pop girl group that had some success with the song Magnetic which was on this EP release back in 2024. This debut EP is less than 10 minutes in length but should be a fairly interesting listening experience for those of you who know nothing about the genre of K-Pop. The group consists of five members: Yunah; Minju; Moka; Wonhee and Iroha. The recording is in both English and Korean. It was produced by Albin Tangblad, Slow Rabbit, Bang Si-hyuk, Martin, Noh Ju-hwan and Stint. It was released on March 25, 2024. Let’s take a listen to this music, and hopefully, it will be an interesting listening experience.
1. My World begins with some warped and weird Psychedelic-styled sounds and enters into an enjoyably laughably good K-Pop girl group song. This sets the scene for this group, but it does sound a lot better than expected. The singing and sounds are very creative, intelligent and ethereal throughout. This is seemingly the future of music in 2024, but it sounds reassuringly sweet and nicely layered. A good tune. Less than two minutes long.
2. Magnetic is the key song from the EP. It begins with some pleasant glockenspiel-type melodies and launches into a straight K-Pop piece of music. If you like cute Asian girls singing a great song, look no further. There is a ton of digital editing, and this is very difficult to take at all seriously as an actual song upon listening to it. Regardless, this tune is a good one and it sounds very futuristic and nicely crafted and constructed. Of course, this is very effeminate Pop-based music, but it sounds really amazing and fantastic throughout. A good and catchy tune, especially in the chorus. A cool listening experience with some decent Pop sounds throughout. Very cool.
3. Midnight Fiction is a good Korean listen, although the English-speaking crowd will be unlikely to understand the music and lyrics here. Regardless, this sounds nicely layered and very gorgeous throughout. These five ladies sing sweetly throughout, and this sounds like the sort of music that one can hear on Netflix K-Dramas. A refreshingly sweet and nicely textured listen, these girls have a soft and sweet musical approach for all K-Pop fans out there. This does sound extremely magical throughout. A very articulate, fresh and interesting listen, these girls do have some potential in the genre. A good listen throughout. Very beautiful.
4. Lucky Girl Syndrome begins with some whistling, finger clicks and laughing, launching into a digital musical ballad that sounds super sweet. This music is very relaxing and interesting to listen to, perfect for the trip to South Korea, provided that there are no further political crises (at least at the time of writing). A good listen if you like girl group K-Pop. It sounds very lovely and sweet, in that aspect. Nonetheless, a good conclusion to a 10-minute-long EP, and better listening than anything Cardi B ever did. Sweet, lovely and different, these ladies have potential. Not bad.
This is an interesting 10-minute long listen which, although sounds extremely effeminate and “girly” so to speak, does have some nicely layered and professional sounds throughout. However, for all the appraise that one can think of for these ladies, it is still K-Pop and rather commercialised and trashy in its own way. It’s good, but not anything overly original. Should you listen to this EP? If you want a good example of 10 minutes of K-Pop Music, go ahead. Otherwise, it’s not a big deal if you hear it or not.
Decent but very, very commercialised.
7/10
