At the time of release, there was nothing quite like this particular EP. The Chemical Brothers had already made a name for themselves with their early singles and their monumental 1995 album release Exit Planet Dust. At the time, there also were several significant singles and EPs that The Chemical Brothers had released that had also gotten some decent attention. This was likely the most important of them all though, and set the scene for not just their next album, 1997’s Dig Your Own Hole but also the rest of their 1990s output, something that would make their contemporaries The Crystal Method likely jealous. This is the Loops Of Fury EP. It was released on 15 January 1996, self-produced by The Chemical Brothers and the title track was so good that it was re-used and re-released a number of times on different formats. Let’s take a listen to this EP, and we shall hear if it is up to scratch.
1. Loops Of Fury sounds incredible from the start. It is an extremely wonderful, cut up and energised piece of music that signals that Tomorrow Never Knows. A fantastic listening experience, this is one to remember. It has various cut-up and original bombastic drum beats and sounds that kick literal rear. A liquid melodic patch enters, which is heavily processed. All in all, if you are a fan of any sort of EDM, this is a must-listen and worth remembering for hearing this tune. Sheer brilliance and sonic excellence are on this tune. A driven, loud and exciting tune, be it you hear it stone-cold sober or wasted under the influence of illicit drugs. Nonetheless, this is a champion’s tune. One of the best times you can ever have listening to music, this is a solidly wonderful listening experience. The breakdown in the second half is absolutely sweet, representing the sheer sonic excellence of The Chemical Brothers. Simply put, if you have never heard this, you must hear it today. It begins to build up again to a crazy finish and sounds absolutely wonderful throughout. A very cool tune. Worth every moment, right up to the DJ scratch at the end, leading into the next track.
2. (The Best Part Of) Breaking Up launches into another awesome tune with sampled DJ scratching and electronic sounds and beats galore. This is music designed to take LSD or similar hard drugs. It sounds absolutely brilliantly fantastic throughout and has nothing to do with breaking up with your partner. A bombastic and entertaining listen, this is just as essential to hear as the track before it. An absolute winner of a tune, with some of the most trippy and interesting samples throughout. A great tune to hear, and something really worthwhile to listen to. The animated cut-up sounds and looping will blow your mind throughout. This EP is absolutely perfect for those of you who do not know who The Chemical Brothers are in music. A powerfully compelling listening experience, this is really mindblowing to hear. This has some reversed percussion in the second half, which sounds magical. If The Chemical Brothers need an award for anything, it is for being the most creative, awesome and intelligent DJ-based EDM musicians of the 1990s. Put simply: amazing. This tune has a very interesting conclusion, which is well worth paying attention to. A very sweet listen throughout. Definitely worth your time. Great and a massive-sounding listening experience. Very cool.
3. Get Up On It Like This is a sneak peek at the Dig Your Own Hole album. It was later mostly incorporated into the album itself, although this version is quite different to the finished product of the album. Still, it sounds quirky and joyously wonderful in its very own way. A super sweet and fantastic listen, this is a glimpse into the future of The Chemical Brothers and the music world in the 21st century. Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons were pure geniuses of musical proportions back in the 1990s. Just as much as Oasis was changing the British Rock scene of the time, so did The Chemical Brothers with Electronic Music. Another top-notch listening experience, this is a great and sensationally awesome track to listen to and enjoy to this very day. Warped, wonderful and futuristic, this is a serious slice of gold that sounds very amazing. The second half sounds not as good as the first half, to be fair. The high-pitched warped sounds could have been rethought, although the beats are really fantastic to hear. A sheer montage of sonic brilliance, all the same. This is as detailed as anything Syd Barrett has ever done. A fast, furious and interesting tune, this sounds extremely cool to listen to. Articulate and interesting, although a bit lengthy. Sweet and awesomely audibly delicious. Very interesting tune.
4. Chemical Beats – Dave Clarke Remix begins with cut-up beats and high-frequency melodies, alongside a bunch of other clever music samples throughout. This is a very sweet and different remix that sounds really excellent and flavoursome throughout. Extremely cool and layered, this is a winner of a tune. Of course, the original Chemical Beats was on the Exit Planet Dust album, but this is a revolutionary remix, just like the three tracks before it on this EP. A tasty sample of ear candy, this sounds admirably fantastic to hear. Very, very awesome musically. In fact, in many ways, this is better than the original. Period. An absolutely wonderful tune to listen to, this sounds crazily good. Very, very good music is present here, with a twist of EDM-styled suspense. If you ever want to show your friends that you are cool, blast this EP at full volume and show them who is boss. A really great listen, through and through. The sampled beats sound absolutely wonderful to hear. A great, great remix that stands tall on its own. A joyously wonderful listen that sounds very brilliant. A cool winner of a tune from start to finish.
This is an amazing EP that any fan of EDM or Electronic-based music needs to hear. It sounds light years ahead of most other musicians and even makes your average nightclub DJ look pathetic today. In any case, this does sound like music that is 100% worth listening to. There is, no question that if you don’t like Classic Rock or Country Music, and you need a good dose of Psychedelic EDM, then this is a great place to start.
Brilliantly fantastic music.
