Although she is better known for her television appearances on shows such as X Factor Australia than her musical work, Kate Ceberano is an interesting and valuable person in the history of Popular Music culture. Born to a Filipino father and an Australian mother, she made her break with a Melbournian band Models, before quickly launching herself as a successful solo artist that has lasted multiple album releases to this very day. To be fair, although many people respect her more as a Pop culture celebrity that they have seen on TV, she does have some interesting songs that were at times a cornerstone of Popular Music and culture in Australia, particularly in the 1990s. This compilation is going to be an interesting listen with respect to her own music, so let’s take a listen to this compilation and we shall hear what it sounds like.

True Romantic launches into quite an unusual-sounding song, that sounds quite a lot like Midnight Oil. Kate Ceberano, to be fair, has a fairly unique and different-sounding voice that is very beautiful. A very magical sounding piece of music that sounds crisp, clear and gorgeous, this does sound a little dated musically. Kate Ceberano sounds like a lady full of intense emotions and lust, and she articulates that throughout her music. Putting her heart on her sleeve, this is an interesting musical listening experience from start to finish. It sounds like a fantastic and valuable song in the history of music. An expressive lead guitar solo is present here, and to be fair, Kate Ceberano does have a musical point here. Postmodern society lacks true romanticism in this world, and Kate Ceberano effectively promotes the desire from the female perspective to be loved and taken care of. A good listen, even if this isn’t the greatest Pop Music song ever. Nonetheless, an interesting listen that fades out at the end. Good lyrics and great singing are present throughout, however.

Pash is one of the key Kate Ceberano hits. It begins with some strange electronic sounds from a keyboard, before launching into a euphoric sounding song with acoustic guitars and gorgeous singing from Kate Ceberano. This is pure romanticism from the feminine perspective, and it sounds gloriously fantastic, to this very day. Some horns are thrown into the mix as well. It seems that Kate Ceberano best expresses her romanticism and sexual-based persona through her music, and this song is a really great example of that. An awesome and passionate-sounding song with some clear and sweet vocals from the lady in the spotlight here. Some harpsichord is present throughout as well as a solo instrumental piece. This was a radio staple back in the 1990s, and the music still makes a good impression to this very day. A joyous, sweet and articulate piece of feminine romanticism, this does sound very, very good to this day. One of the best pieces from Kate Ceberano in retrospect. A very sweet song about making out, and something valuable to listen to in retrospect. Awesome.

I Won’t Let You Down begins with electronic drumbeats, and launches into a strange keyboard-led tune with some Pop edges to it. An organ enters, and this continues the theme of pure love and romanticism from a lady’s perspective. This has a definite vibe that recollects the best of the female singers over time, and Kate Ceberano makes some quintessential Pop Music for those of you who love female singers with a hugely romantic and sexual flair. This has some interesting production and arrangements, including reverb-heavy guitar. This is the sort of music that is designed to impress male listeners who have never really heard romantic songs from a talented female singer. These are better songs than you’d think, despite the fact that some of the instrumentation on this song is a little cheesy. In any case, this is a quirky but romantic listen that sounds very classy. Kate Ceberano’s singing voice is also very, very good and some of the background vocals here emit some Soul Music vibes. Very sweet. It fades out at the end.

Calling You begins with some strummed and treated acoustic guitars, and quickly launches into a good song about longing for romance in one’s life, with some comparison perspectives thrown into it. Kate Ceberano has a gorgeous and natural singing voice, regardless of whether autotune is used here or not. Drums kick in, and this sounds like the sort of music one would listen to alone, thinking about their significant other. A very romantic and sensual-sounding song. Sure, Kate Ceberano may not be the most famous singer out there, as previously mentioned, but her voice is surprisingly magnificent. In any case, this underrated Pop Music gem definitely deserves a listen. A good song to listen to, especially while lying in bed, with one’s eyes closed. Some of the session guitar playing present on this song is original and interesting to listen to. Kate Ceberano’s voice is melodic, beautiful and fantastic and it is easy to hear why she got musical attention in the first place. Very, very good and soft music to listen to.

Everything’s Alright sounds like a retrospective listen, with quirky keyboards and some gorgeous melodic singing throughout. Kate Ceberano sounds like she is singing romantic hymns for male listeners who need to be seduced by female singers who can introduce young men to a new form of music. A guest appearance by John Farnham and Jon Stevens is present, and to be honest, this is not the best song as a result as their styles clash throughout this song in a musical sense. Still, if you like a mixed-up listening experience, then this is a good go-to song. This is a song about eliminating poverty with human compassion throughout. A good song, although the strange mixture of guests makes this song a bit disappointing. This no doubt would be a good song for Kate Ceberano to conclude her concerts with. The sentiment of the lyrics is good, even if this sounds a little dramatic and awkward musically at times. Nice to listen to, even with its flaws. Kate Ceberano does have a fantastic voice, however, and her voice has a husky edge at the end. Different.

Love and Affection begins as a very Anita Doth-sounding 2 Unlimited digital love ballad. Nonetheless, this does sound quite pretty, beautiful and sweet throughout. Kate Ceberano sounds very sweet, lovely and romantic throughout this whole song, and she gives off a unique musical persona throughout. Just like falling in love seriously for the first time, this is a very moving and unforgettable experience throughout. Indeed, this is one of the more underrated and underappreciated singers out there, even if Kate Ceberano is much more noted as someone who appears on music programs than for her songs. Having said that, this song is very pretty and moving, like a slow dance with your partner. Nonetheless, this does sound extremely good, although some of the production and arrangements are a bit dated and cheesy, to be fair. Friday or Saturday night with your partner in bed is sorted with this music, and this sounds very different to much other music out there. An awesome and sensual listen with a memorable closing lyric.

Change begins with some clean Fender Stratocaster guitars, drumbeats and other interesting production arrangements throughout. This music sounds pretty, joyous and upbeat throughout. For such a song that has barely been reflected on in Popular Music culture, Kate Ceberano illuminates herself as the lady next door who straight males would like to get to know more. This is a very pretty, joyous and sweet tune that sounds very romantic and sensual throughout, and the music here is extremely underrated, to say the least. This song points out the stupidity and annoyance of propaganda on the news media, which is an uncomfortable acceptance for many in life. However, it is up to one whether or not they should stomach it. A Soul-based tune with some romantic and moving musical overtones throughout, this is remarkably impressive listening. Kate Ceberano sings in a genuinely great multi-octave voice that suits this music perfectly. A really fantastic listen from start to finish, and one of her better songs by far. Totally enjoyable.

Feeling Alright begins with some interesting piano and hi-hats and launches into an interesting live recording of a musical ballad at hand. This is a good listen from the start, and Kate Ceberano launches into a good Soul Music tune about getting it on. Marvin Gaye had some female competition on this song, in his own way? Possibly. Regardless, this is a very genuinely good listen and one cannot help but think that Kate Ceberano’s record company should have promoted her music better. Regardless, this is a joyful, upbeat and interesting listening experience throughout. A piano solo is present here, which makes this tune even more classy, intellectual and joyous. A really fantastic listening experience, and something in retrospect that sounds unusually solid and timeless. If music is designed to take one to a better place, this compilation is peppered with such moments. An awesome listen, through and through. Very nice to listen to, with loads of brass and other sweet production touches throughout.

Brave is a very nice-sounding Synth Pop music ballad that sounds thoroughly enjoyable from the start. Although this does sound a little 1980s, it sounds sweet and magical throughout. The music and sounds are very lovely and support Kate Ceberano’s voice, style and image throughout. This heavy love-based and romantic sounding music is extremely underrated throughout. This music is pleasantly joyous to listen to, and the combination of sounds, song structure and glorious singing from the star is quite unforgettable. This is a good listen as well for those of you who pine for some interesting and pleasant music from the past. The saxophone present here is also very glorious. Kate Ceberano sounds like a naturally great singer, capable of multiple octave notes, vibrato and a natural singing voice that is heart-tugging. The music and arrangements throughout are very, very good as well and sound super sweet. This is a good song to share with a lover as you go for a long drive, just alone with them. A really lovely song to listen to, and hopefully this will not be forgotten over time. It ends with some looped and multitracked vocals that sound fantastic. Awesome.

Bedroom Eyes launches right into a quirky, 1980s-sounding Pop Music song. It has a bit of a Reggae flavour to it as well. Kate Ceberano launches into it, with a song about lust and other interesting things throughout. A quirky although dated song, this is a weird listen in retrospect, but this is an interesting song that even the Far East Movement alluded to in their own music. A cool and different listen about wanting to get it on, this is a very good listen, albeit very dated to hear today. There are a multitude of different vocals, saxophone playing and multitracked fragments of sound throughout that make this song really interesting. Very sexual and dirty, from a woman’s perspective, of course. A good song, although admittedly probably not Kate Ceberano’s best song.

Time To Think has the sound of passing cars and mellow yet moody instrumentation, before launching into a song about breaking up. This is a very sad song about the darkest of moods and experiences in one’s relationship and love life. This is Kate Ceberano at her darkest in a musical sense, as she delivers a stark message to a lover she has just broken off with. A sad listen, but nonetheless, a good reminder of how bad relationships can quickly sour. This isn’t really a standout tune, but it makes sense for young women to listen to if they are experiencing relationship difficulties. This is a schizophrenic listening experience with both elements of musical light and shade throughout. A sad and poignant reminder of how men can be cruel and misunderstanding to women, causing them to be drastic in their actions. A good listen if you need to hear such a song. Very close to the bone.

I Don’t Know How To Love Him features John Farnham. It begins with some melodic piano and upbeat singing, and John Farnham’s singing is surprisingly good throughout. These two singers make a decent musical match on this song, and it is a smooth, decent musical ballad. This is a good song about relationship difficulties and proves that love is a lot like roses with their thorns, there are both good and bad parts throughout. A human side to this music becomes prevalent, and Kate Ceberano expresses deeply her desire to fix things in different ways in a relationship. A good listen throughout nonetheless, there are some deep and personal melodic emotions in this song. Another underrated song for both men and women to listen to, and something that reveals love to be a complicated matter. A really good listen that sounds better than what one would typically think of this sort of music. It fades out with electronic beats.

Love Is Alive sounds quirky and unusual, from the start. There are a lot of retro keyboards throughout, and this song sounds very unusual and dated throughout. An okay listen, but it is clear that towards the end of this compilation, some of the material by Kate Ceberano is fairly patchy. In any case, this is still listenable and enjoyable throughout. This is about going out with a partner for the night and enjoying each other’s company, to the full. Kate Ceberano states the desires and lust that a woman can have with her man, in a very passionate and emotional way. Her voice is very magical, however, and she sounds gloriously unique, in that respect. A very good listen that, although sounds dated, is genuinely sweet.

Young Boys Are My Weakness kind of says it all about Kate Ceberano. It launches into a gloriously Funk/Disco-based piece of music that proves that Kate Ceberano likes younger men out there. This definitely has a late 1970s musical flavour looking back to the Disco era and is almost profane in its dirtiness and sexuality. If you are young and a straight male, you will likely find this song amusing. Absurdly wonderful, this is an unusual song that is the female equivalent of the Cock Rock movement throughout the 1980s. Enjoyable and interesting, there is a very nice saxophone solo throughout. A twisted but sexual song that makes sense if you are male, in your 20s and dig older women like Kate Ceberano. Interesting music.

All That I Want Is You has an emotional and sensitive vocal to begin with, over some good organ. This quickly enters into a lovely and upbeat Pop Music piece that sounds gorgeous and uplifting. Kate Ceberano continues to put her expressive love/lust-based personality into her music, and she sings about thinking constantly about a lover. A magical and lovely musical statement that sounds extremely passionate, this is one of the more musically consistent and rewarding listens from this compilation. A rather David Gilmour-sounding guitar solo is in the midsection of this song, before returning to the Pop ballad at hand. Simple music, but a reminder of a less AI and computerised driven musical era, with some sweet singing by Kate Ceberano. Not too bad a listen, and certainly enjoyable throughout. Very, very nice music to listen to.

See Right Through is the final track on this compilation. It begins with a spacey keyboard intro, before launching into a symphonic-sounding song that sounds dramatic. Kate Ceberano sings a rather vulnerable and sensitive musical listen to one’s ears, and she has proven here on this compilation that she has a unique personality that is typically female. A very loveable and enjoyable song that points out the good and bad in relationships throughout. A very good song about seeing a lover for their good and bad points. There is a Disco flavour to this particular song, with piano, strings, funky Fender Stratocaster and other arrangements for this song. A good listen to end a compilation that is actually surprisingly good. A good conclusion with some sweet singing and melodicism that is a reminder of everything before computers and the internet took over the world. Very nice.

Kate Ceberano may not have the popularity or commercial appeal of the likes of postmodern female artists such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish or Sabrina Carpenter. However, the musical personality in her songs, particularly her hits is very unique. Detailing a multitude of realistic female emotions dealing with both love and sexual themes, her music is a reminder of some of the glory days of Pop Music long gone. Warts and all, this is a good compilation to listen to. Should you listen to it? In particular, if you are a young male who wants to hear how a woman truly feels, go for it. However, if you like most music made after the year 2000, this will unlikely appeal to you.

Music for the bedroom.
